The Mitsubishi Colt Galant GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato) was first shown as a Galant GTX-1 demonstration car at the 1969 Tokyo Motor Show. Sales began in November 1970, when it became the flagship hardtop variant of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' then-new Colt Galant sedan. The name was revived in 1990 for the Mitsubishi GTO model, although the name was only used in the domestic Japanese market.
